Building Opportunities for Business (BOB)

Building Opportunities for Business (BOB) is a program brought to you by ACPWA that works to promote economic growth, local employment and business development within Alameda County by maximizing public contracting opportunities for local business. We encourage the participation of small and local contractors, consultants, and vendors by ensuring non-discrimination through outreach, education, and technical assistance.

BOB Education Sessions

Our BOB Education Series covers a wide range of topics including upcoming contracting opportunities, certification guidance, networking opportunities, and technical assistance.

These events provide a unique opportunity for local businesses—including minority, women, and small business owners—to learn about upcoming contracting opportunities. As well as gaining insight into industry trends and information, attendees can make connections with key Public Works Agency staff members, and other Alameda County contracting and certifying agencies. These were previously presented in person, however, to ensure the safety of our hosts, partners, and participants we have moved this event series to a virtual format.

Contractors Academy

Our Contractors’ Academy is a workshop series for small and local contractors interested in breaking into public works contracting or growing their work in this sector. The Academy program typically consists of 4 sessions aimed at enhancing contractor understanding of public works contracting procedures, fine tuning estimating/bidding skills, and connecting specialty contractors with general contractors already doing business with ACPWA. The Academy is offered in the fall and has attracted more than 113 contractors so far.
