When a tripping hazard is reported, we are required to notify the property owner of the sidewalk tripping hazard, and to request that the property owner make the necessary sidewalk repair to eliminate the tripping hazard. [California Streets and Highways Code, Section 5160 states that property owners are responsible for maintaining the sidewalks abutting their property.]
To assist owners with sidewalk repair expenses, the Sidewalk Repair Program will reimburse the property owner for 50% of the sidewalk repair costs per property (or up to a maximum of $750, whichever is less) for sidewalk-related repairs to the frontage of a single family residential parcel.
This Measure B/BB funding is available to single-family residential properties in the following communities:
- Castro Valley
- Unincorporated Hayward/Fairview
- San Lorenzo/Royal Sunset
