Tree Program

Tree Program

The Alameda County Tree Program ensures the preservation of trees in the County's right of way and properties adjacent to County-maintained streets for the safe use of unincorporated area public roads.

Property owners are responsible for maintaining the trees located in the County “right-of-way” adjacent to their property.

Tree Permits

Permits are required to plant, prune or remove a tree within the County right-of-way.

Minor pruning (cutting of branches that are 1" in diameter or less) can be performed without a permit.

If you need a permit, there is a non-refundable $50 application fee that covers a portion of the cost of the inspection and processing of the application.

Non-site specific tree permits are available for qualifying contractors for maintenance only. Homeowners using contractors who hold these permits are exempt from regular tree permits and associated fees.

Tree Advisory Board

The Tree Advisory Board (TAB) consists of five Alameda County residents, appointed by each member of the Board of Supervisors, who advise the Director of Public Works on tree matters.

The Tree Advisory Board Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, 2019 (CANCELLED).

Tree Ordinance

The Alameda County Tree Ordinance is the primary regulatory tool that provides orderly protection and preservation of all trees located on streets within the County right-of-way.
