STIVERS LAGOON RESTORATION PROJECT IN FREMONT

ZONE NO. 6 PROJECT

Project Overview

Stivers Lagoon marsh, encompassing an area of approximately 40 acres to the southeast of Lake Elizabeth in the City of Fremont's Central Park, has evolved into an emergent wetland that dries out in the summertime. Over time, the Stivers Lagoon marsh has deteriorated as lower groundwater levels and other hydrologic changes have reduced habitat values for wetland plant species and facilitated the growth of upland plant species.

The Project will restore and enhance the hydrology of Stivers Lagoon by diverting some flows from Mission Creek into a newly excavated ponds (enhancing habitat value in the marsh), installing a new pedestrian bridge over Mission Creek, constructing new catwalk and multi-purpose concrete pathway along Mission Creek by the parking lot, and installing benches and recycling receptacles.
