Where privately owned driveways are to be conformed to the new roadway or sidewalk there needs to be permission from the owner of the private property to enter private property to do the construction work. Written permission from private property owners must be obtained in advance of the project to allow access for the purpose of conforming driveways and sidewalks during construction. Owners may give written permission by signing the Permit to Enter to Do Work as provided by Alameda County Public Works on this web site.
The appropriate scenario for use of a Permit to Enter for access/use of private property to accommodate construction work/activity is one for which all of the following conditions exist:
- The private property is located within the project area but the work identified is not within the construction project scope.
- Access to the private property is not required in order to construct the project.
- The access is to the private property owner’s benefit and not the benefit of the project.
- Construction of the project can be completed without the need to condemn for private property access.
If improvements are planned for a residence you own along a County roadway you may be asked to provide a signed Permit to Enter and Do Work.
